I am contemplating sharing some of the stuff that I am tuning myself to learn & grow every Sunday or every other Sunday. Also, I want to make this a community substack, wherein some of you want to share thought-provoking data/research-backed pieces on venture capital, impact investing, conscious capitalism, conscious leadership, innovative finance, sustainable finance, etc.
What do you guys think? Do you want to share any article, case study, or whitepaper with 15 thousand plus subscribers?
Here is what I have been reading, listening & watching these days »
Reading:
Letters from a Stoic, by Seneca (Penguin Classics) » I found this book mesmerizing and uplifting, though I have just started reading it. It hits you on the spot of why frugality and living matter so much to stoics and why we should not be proud of our wealthy possessions, or else they will enslave us.
Poor Charlie's Almanack: The Essential Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger by Charles T. Munger (Author), Peter D. Kaufman (Editor), Warren Buffett (Foreword), John Collison (Foreword) » This is one of the most authentic and game-changing books in finance about a guy who transformed the industry with his non-conform thinking, unique style of investing and mental models on finance to life. When you read Charlie Munger, you realize capitalism doesn’t need to be bad, and not once in his life did he try to be an unethical financier; he lived with morals (virtues) and always told people to be good human beings first. We can be better human beings by following the principles and mental models of Charlie Munger, if not investors, at the very least.
Living Meditation by Hector Esponda Dubin » The book is very straightforward, covering various aspects of spiritual meditation that can help us connect with the source, i.e., enlightenment (moksha), hearing divine sound, and seeing divine light. The book covers quotes and excerpts from several sages/saints. I finished this book this week.
Zen Is Right Here: The Wisdom of Shunryu Suzuki by David Chadwick » The book is really short; you can read it in 60 minutes to a few hours. These are Q&As with Suzuki Roshi, and I promise you will laugh reading some answers, especially on the LSD one.
A young man asked Suzuki Roshi what he thought about LSD, and All he said was, "Enlightenment is not a state of mind."
Podcasts
I listened to several this week, but some that stand out and I would be revisiting ones are »
Laura Geritz » She will surprise with her wittiness, nerdiness, humbleness, and clarity in thought process and mental model of investing in global stocks. She is genuinely the female version of Charlie Munger. I cherished listening to her!
Charlie Munger » I just can’t stop listening about Charlie and his mental models. This is a great podcast - it covers various aspects of his personal and professional life really well.
Hamilton Helmer » His book on 7 Powers is phenomenal and the best book to learn about competitive moat and how to build a strategy rooted in execution. I started reading his book at the end of last year and will pick it up again.
Tim Ferris » I am not a big fan of Tim Ferris and his books, but I find the podcast balanced and focused on creating value by focusing on your niches rather than doing everything.
